Ali`i Nui Mō`ī Edmund K. Silva, Jr., 5-6-16… “President Obama’s Response to King’s letter regarding North Korea”

kingdom_of_hawaii_seal_of_the_king_55Ali`i Mana`o Nui Lanny Sinkin: In January, the King wrote a letter to various world leaders regarding his concern that the neutral Kingdom of Hawai’i is being drawn into conflicts in which the Kingdom has no involvement.  The particular threat addressed by the King is the possibility of North Korea launching a missile targeted on the Hawaiian Islands as a means of attacking the United States.  In his letter, the King offered the peace-making (ho’oponopono) services of the Kingdom to assist the conflicting parties in finding a peaceful resolution.

President Obama responded to the King’s letter with an in depth presentation of the United States position regarding North Korea. While being very critical of actions taken by North Korea and that nation’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, the President did state that he “remains open to opportunities for credible dialogue….”
